The exhibition “Gioielli di Giulio Manfredi celebrano Raffaello. Scuola di Luce” (Jewels by Giulio Manfredi celebrate Raphael. School of Light) curated by Alberto Rocca and Arnaldo Colasanti, at the Ambrosian Library, Milan.
On display in the ‘Sala del Cartone di Raffaello’ (“Raphael’s Cartoon Room”), the artistic installation consists of twenty-one drawings for twenty-one sophisticated jewels, corresponding to as many of the characters in the cartoon itself, for the Vatican fresco by the School of Athens.
The scenography embraces the whole room, offering visitors an unimaginable surprise: Raphael’s Cartoon and Manfredi’s jewels become a single artistic installation. The dark space and dazzling light of the Cartoon overlap in a labyrinthine mirror. More than an illustration of the work of this Renaissance maestro, the jewels become a sublime and unrepeatable product of Raphael’s imagination. Visitors can enjoy an aesthetic and equally ecstatic experience of the full integration of art with life.
The exhibition was set up on portable screens, as after Milan it will be on show in Tokyo and New York.
